Had my first successful (and unexpected) litter of rattlesnakes today. Just wondering how soon they will be ready to feed. Sorry for my ignorance but I have never dealt with newborns before. They are timbers and are all 9 to 12 inches so they are big enough to consume junkies I would imagine. Any input would be great.

Usually after their first shed. And sometimes even longer. After they shed offer f/t if they dont take them then offer live. Good luck captive born timbers are great.

I find that most neonate rattlesnakes acclimate and feed more readily when left with the female until their first shed which is usually 10 days. Remove them and set them up separately.

I just recently had a litter of new copperheads on 8/26. They all ate at 3 days easily. they have all since shed and have eaten a second meal.
