I think my snake is sick and I am worried there may be something chemical or biological causing it that could also be poisoning me and my family.
Quick background of the situation. I have been keeping snakes since I am 10. I have been keeping large constrictors since I am 15 and hots since I am 18. I have worked with and kept everything from cobras to ball pythons and everything in-between so I am pretty familiar with what is normal and abnormal snake behavior. About 4 months ago I picked up a male albino diamond back rattle snake for a friend. To make a long story short I ended up getting stuck with it.
The snake had a typical albino western diamondback attitude and level of aggression but nothing crazy. Usually, after I took him out of the cage he would calm down, stop rattling, and investigate. He rarely snapped at me and was very manageable outside of the cage. About 2 months in he started getting hyper aggressive. I would hear him rattling down in the basement when no one was there and he would violently snap at the cage whenever I walked by. The level of aggression seemed way above average. It eventually got to the point where I could no longer take him out and had to take top tier measures when I had to clean his cage. Things started getting really bad around the 4th month. I went to open his cage to feed him with a snake hook and he lunged out and came straight at me chasing me across the basement like something out of a movie. I pinned him and put him back. The final straw came when I got home from work one day. I was making a sandwich but kept hearing a loud thudding noise coming from the basement. I went down there to see what was going on and I see the snake just violently smashing his face against the glass biting at it like a lunatic. He had been doing this for some time and busted his face open there was blood everywhere. I immediately opened the cage and took him out to stop him from hurting himself. His face was badly deformed and injured and he had lost a lot of blood to the point where he was physically unable to get as bat shit crazy as he usually does. I put him in a container and put him in the freezer. Really didn’t want to do it but he was too aggressive to give to someone else and was a danger to me, my family, and himself. I pretty much just chalked it up to him being a crazy ass snake although I had never really seen or experienced anything like this before. Never seen this level of aggression in any snake not even monocle cobras. Even my wife noticed and was concerned. But it was what it was I just figured it happens.
Fast forward to now. I just moved into my house last year and made a snake room in the basement. I sold all my snakes before I moved so the rattle snake was actually the first snake I had down there since I moved in. After he was gone I bought new boaphile cages because I was planning on breeding boa constrictors. Picked up a moonglow boa from the show put him in the cage. Held the snake almost every day for about a month, totally docile and domesticated no aggression, eating fine, no signs of illness, everything’s good. About 2 months in the snake goes batshit crazy. Can’t pick him up, trying to attack me, biting the glass to the point he bleeds when no one is there. We just got home from my family’s house and we heard him hyperventilating from the basement. We went down there and he was just curled up in the strike position with his mouth open and was attacking the glass even though no one was there. I took him out and he wouldn’t stop attacking me he was bleeding and had injured himself. He is displaying the same signs as the rattle snake super hyper exaggerated aggression like I have never seen before. Now me and my wife are worried that some type of chemical or biological agent may be causing this. I looked into mold chemicals in water etc. but can’t find anything matching his symptoms’ any of you guys have any ideas as to what this can be please share this is stressing me out.
Also, another odd fact is since we move in my dog won’t go in the basement. When we go down to do our laundry he just sits at the top of the stares and cries. He is 120 lb. Doberman Pincher and that’s not like him at all so we always found this really odd. Has anybody ever heard of anything like this? It’s like rabies level aggression on steroids and I’ve never seen anything like it before and I am really trying to understand what t could be that’s causing this and whether or not it could affect me or my family.

Anything is possible on SI. Is the snake in the same cage as the Rattle snake was? Sounds like you need a priest to come in and give the new place a cleansing blessing. Animals especially dogs pick up on that stufff. What weird behavior.
