I am planing on getting a digital camera for this years herping season
in south Georgia .
What would be a good
choice for a reasonal price?
I'm thinking of some good close up shots from some local hots. Lots of canebrakes in this part of Georgia.

Hi:
I have been using the Sony Cybershot DSC-F717 (5.0 Megapixels) for my work. It has excellent macro and telephoto capabilities. You need at least 3 megapix to take good quality photos and it has a Zeiss lens which makes all of the difference in the world. It also has a long lens that allows you to get the snakes nose almost on the lens and still gives you some safety margin. I have a great shot I took yesterday of a neonate Desert Horned Adder (Cerastes)I picked up at the Hamburg show that the lens was almost touching it's nose. It's not posted yet but if anyone want to see it I will send it to them.
They are about $700-800 and are worth every penny. What ever you get, I suggest that you get it at Best Buys (No connection to me) They have a wonderful extended warranty that costs about $50 that covers the camera for 5 years. I bought my first digital, a Casio at Best Buys. Nine months into owning it I had to take it in for repairs. They just gave me a credit for the full amount I spent on the camera to buy a current model (the DSC-F717) because they did not carry the Casio anymore.
To see some examples of what this camera can do see my website:

All of the pics were taken with this camera. One thing to keep in mind. Digitals that some getting used to if all you used were 35mm. They see the image differently than the 35mm thus you need to alter your shooting style to work effectively with the camera.
Feel free to contact me if I can be of anymore assistance.
