Is the snake an extremely nervous individual? Is he new to his surroundings? Is he captive born? Is he a neonate or adult? These factors will have bearing on a probable solution to your problem. Considering him to be a very young specimen, and not overly jumpy, you might want to try the following..
1)make sure that there is no sort of vibration or jolting of the cage when you are about to offer the food item. 2)make sure there is no movement or distracting things going on around the cage site. 3)keep your movements "slow" and have a long, small diameter rod (straightened clothes hanger) to "ever so slightly" move the food source to stimulate a reaction. 4) kill the prey just before offering it to the snake. 5) when putting the dead prey into the cage, try to present it away from the snakes face very
quietly and gradually push into view of the snakes head with the clothes hanger. 6) while doing this, be sure to keep all YOUR body movements SLOOOW and to a minimum. Sometimes I smear some of the preys blood over it's body and nudge it very slowly towards the snake so that it's tongue touch's the bloody area. I've had this work numerous times as well. I can't stress the importance of keeping all movements slow and quiet (vibrationless as possible) I've used this technique for many years and had more success than failures. GOOD LUCK.................SNAKE
