I have found Eastern Diamondbacks all over Southeastern Georgia. The best advice I ever got about looking for Diamondbacks was to look before temps get over 75. They head for cover when it gets too hot.

THANKS KARL..I think thats good advice for Diamondbacks everywhere..Have you ever done any hunting on the coastal island areas?..Sapelo?..St Simon?..CUmberland..ETC..?
Had heard those areas were particulary rich in rattlers..perhaps some pigmies as well?? but Do not have any current confirmation of this? and am curious...I just hunt for pleasure and its all catch and release..After photos of Course!,,.any help in this would be apreciated and Reciprocated in kind ..for any info I have on SC..hunting..or Central America..

Cumberland Island has some of the largest Eastern Diamondbacks that I have ever seen. If you get a chance to explore the south end, go look around Dungeoness, the old burned up mansion. Once you get in that area, pretty much anywhere between the St. Marys river and the scrub near the beach will almost surely give you some fina animals. It's a pretty big island with several very diverse habitats to choose from. Sweet spot!

Just don't dare try and take one of the Island, because they will know. I don't know how but they will catch you, They popped me and there is no way anyone saw me catch it, but it cost me almost a $1000 and total humiliation, which I deserved for my stupidity.

Very good point. Since it is a national park, all of the animals are protected. You can only access the island by boat and most visitors get there on the Cumberland Queen. In the off chance that you did catch something and then tried to remove it from the island.....Dude, if you get caught, you are in trouble. I hope you were just looking for the sake of seeing one of these great creatures in the wild. Let us know what you find - Matt
