Do we ever win?

The news reports take great pangs in sensationalizing cases where a house is raided and the venomous snakes taken away. My question is, how many times do we win, if ever? Are these local laws ever fought and won in court? You never hear of marks in the "win" column, only the "loss."

We actually do win but usually only on a local or regional level.
Every time the local news (print or tv) covers one of us giving responsible education concerning venomous reptiles, that is a plus in our favor.
Many of our members have been in the press for their education and conservation efforts including Chris Harper, Chad Minter, Larry Lemon and most recently Thomas Eimermacher (Snake Wranglers - Swimming with Cobras). It is important to represent to the public, responsible and safe keeping/handling techniques and attitudes so that we have something valid to point to and hold up when it becomes our turn to fight against "new" legislation.
The key to our continued ability to harbor venomous reptiles in our homes, in my opinion, is going to be how we use those reptiles to benefit the "public at large". To that end, I save every single elementary/middle/high school, crayon colored or fancy script, "thank you Mr. Betz" notes and letters so that when it comes to be my turn to address the lawmakers, I have my ammunition.
It is always going to be an uphill battle for us and it is always going to require participation. Unfortunately, a large number of keepers prefer to rant online about their "rights" than to get out and do something about it.
Just my opinion,
Karl H. Betz
