One more thing I'd like to add
Intestinal blockage.....due to not defecating or parasites. You may want to tube it and feel for a mass of feces. While it's tubed you can take a gastric sample to take to a vet.
If it is a fecal blockage a warm water bath (soak) will get things moving most of the time. Make sure she drinks at least once a week.
Good luck,
Al

Great!!
Bitis is really weird about fecal retention and drinking.
At least twice a week I drag the Gabby & Rhino over to the water dish for a drink. They almost always need a hint on why I did this and I have to use the hook to gently push their head into the water before they drink. On occassion they seem to forget what they are doing and need another reminder.
My Puff Adder has such a nasty attitude about the hook it will not drink when I have to move it. I could only get it to drink right from a spray bottle at first which makes me very nervious (fingers closer than I like) but it adopts a whole different posture when it needs a drink this way. Now I have her "trained" LOL...really happened by accident...to go to the water dish when I spray where she then drinks.
I don't panic anymore if they don't defecate on a regular basis as I was told by others in this forum. I do keep accurate detailed records on each specimen so I know what's really going on.
Hope this added some additional insight to this species.
Let me know how is works out.
Best,
Al
