A recent question about Peruvian venomous snakes, somebody used this.
I've never seen bothrocophias before, but apparently this is a species that's been grouped in
porthidium and bothrops (and maybe something else) before. I've only seen pictures, apparently it's fatter than most bothrops (its body and markings made it look sort of like atropoides(sp?) to me, and has a hog-nose like porthidium.
Who's proposed this name? Are there any other species included? Does anyone think it will become widespread?

Bothrocophias was recently described by Gutberlet & Campbell, and includes the species campbelli, hyoprora, microphthalmus and myersi (described as new in the same paper). I reckon there is a pretty good chance that it will stick.
Cheers,
Wolfgang
