I have been doing some work out on my family's land in East Texas (near Tyler). The property consists of about 140 acres of mostly pine, and some hardwood, but it is all very thickly wooded...with a creek branch and a small pond. What is the best time and method for spotting the most copperheads? I just got a new digital camera, but have yet to get any good herp pics. I would appreciate the advice.

I am only familiar with copperhead habits on the east coast but you may have a good chance of finding one in the morning hours or late in the evening around 7:30pm. to 10:00pm. especially after a thunder storm. Also flipping tin and boards around old farm building's is a good place to look.

Hey, I am a herpotologist from kentucky, and this place
is infested with copperheads. for example monday I caught three in one day. I average about one a day. there are so many snakes to choose from, that I rarely have time for the copperheads. It has been my experience that you will almost never find a copperhead under tin. my advice is to get sheets of wood. sheets now not log sizes. roughly seven sheets about six feet long four feet wide. place them in flat grassy areas
where field mice might be close. if you wan't more information,or want to let me know how it works.
