Hi,
If its eating pinks or fuzzies I wouldnt worry about them hurting your snake. Ive fed live fuzzies to my gophersnake and he wouldnt even bother killing them first and just scarfed em down kicking an screaming.
The real problem lies with adult mice and especially, adult rats. These are more then cabable of biteing the hell out of your snake in deffense and in the case of rats, killing them!
Hopefully, by the time your youngin is large enough to take adult prey items he will have been switched to frozen thawed or became a little less bash full.
Also, if the feeding problems persist when he gets to this stage just try to stay as completely still as you can and off to the side a little. It usualy works. Kinda sucks but its ojne way to insure that you will be there if something bad happens.
Hope this helps.
Later,
Jeremy

Hello,
I have been breeding EDB's for a number of years now.
It is my main species of interest and your problem is fairly common. first off, do you have a hide box in the cage for it? typically the shy ones will lay inside the hidebox and strike the prey as it goes by the opening. this usually means the prey is dead before the EDB leaves the box in search of it. Usually you will be able to get it conditioned to strike a pre-killed mouse as you move it in front of the hidebox opening with tongs..then just drop it and back off.. he will think he killed it himself. I hope this helps and if I can help anyone else with EDB problems, please email me anytime. And before anyone asks, I do not have any for sale. I breed for release only. (and I do not wish to argue about that with anyone either) Thanks, Robbie Crabtree..Jacksonville Fl.
