Description: 7 March 011 Bird watching along the Continental Divide between the states of Chiriqui and Boca del Toro in Panama. Elevation about 1,000M. The snake was about 16-17 inches long and quite docile due to the "cold" temperature during the rainstorm that was occuring. It was on the side of a one lane blacktop road that has VERY little vehicle or pedestrian traffic. At first it vibrated its reddish colored tail and slowly move off into a concrete ditch. I directed it back onto the blacktop with my walking stick and it settled in and let me take numerous pictures with my Canon A540 camera. When I was finished, I directed it into my upturned umbrella and removed it to a safe area. I also have an interest in herpts and have spent a lot of time in the western USA and have found all the rattlesnakes species except willardi. Was I that fortunate to have found a juvenile Bushmaster? Bob
