Description: (Trimorphodon biscutatus vandenburghi)
These snakes are venomous, but not dangerous to man. Their venom is hemolytic, attacking the red blood cells of their prey, reducing its ability to take oxygen into its body tissues. Envenomation is by a pair of grooved teeth in the back of the mouth and a pair of venom glands. The prey must be grasped in the mouth and chewed to get the venom into the prey's body.
This species is nocturnal, foraging at night in rocky areas that small vertebrates like lizards, mice, and even bats hide out.
This one of two that I have found this spring/summer.
