Description: Roger Klingenberg; Paperback; Buy New: $8.95 --A concise review of reptile parasites, treatments and protocols used to avoid parasite transmission by a noted specialist in this field. It's not a large book, but it's densely packed with valuable information, including dosage charts and techniques such as the fecal floatation. While this book won't replace an experienced herp vet, it's a valuable resource, especially where access to quality veterinary care is limited. A "must-have" for every serious herper's library.

I rated this book as great, because it's the only introduction to reptile parasites for the layman on the market. And since 99% of veterinarians won't see any of your venomous reptiles, you'll absolutely need it to understand how to treat them for parasites. Whether you know it or not, at least part of your venomous collection has some kind of parasites, many of which can be highly detrimental to your collection if improperly managed. The good thing about this particular book is that it's written for the average person. So if you want to take your husbandry to the next level, you'll need to buy this book, and $8.95 is very little considering the information that you get.

If you really get into this book to the point of purchasing a microscope to check your own animals, Dr. Klingenberg also has a Reptile Parasite Identification Chart and Formulary. This is a laminated chart with color micrographs and line drawings of parasites likely to be encountered during microscopic examinations. Also includes a formulary of drugs and dosages for treatment. I got my copy from the Bean Farm (http://www.beanfarm.com/books.htm#Books).
