Description: Seasoned field herpetologist and television personality Mark O’Shea gave us his personal specifications for a snake hook a few years ago. We made it for him and he’s been carrying it ever since. For the first time, we are now making this hook available to the public.
Designed after the snake-hook style most often seen in India and Southeast Asia, the hook utilizes blue anodized tubing laser etched with Mark O’Shea’s signature, 2 comfortable handgrips, and a titanium hook end.
This just might become your favorite hook as well!

Best on the market!

I have a few of these hooks, and I love them! They are strong and dependable. I love the extra grip too, good for two handing the hook or good for dealing with smaller species. I’ve had some of the cheaper hooks made out of the golf clubs, and they work for some stuff I guess, however I had the hook end just fall out on me one time while handling a psychotic 4ft king cobra. This Mark O’Shea hook has never let me down though. Even with some heavier broad body venomous stuff. Anything really big or heavy though I use the MW python hook so I don’t risk injuring the ribs or any internals of the snake. I couldn’t say enough about this line of hooks though, I’d recommend them to anyone.

Great Hook and Strong
|
Time owned: 6 to 12 months

Excellent hook, well designed. I decieded to get one after one of the home made deals gave up on me with a 15 1/2ft ophiophaus hannah in my hand. I had bought the homemade deal at the Columbia, SC Repticon show, desapointing, but never the less, this hook holds up and is ready! I have since purchesed the shorter version as well just to keep in my truck for an removals or road rescues! Cant say enough about these hooks! Exellent!

good in the feild- if you get the 40 inch
|
Time owned: more than 12 months

I have used the 40 inch Mark OShea Signature Series Hook a fair bit these last few summers, and i must say I really quit like it. it is very tough and good even for fliping stuff. Although it isn't great for snakes under 2 1/2 feet, the throat is just far to big.

Not all that good !

I agree with Paul Rowley in the size of the hook being too big. The overall length is good though. I really did not like this Midwest hook much at all, and eventually gave it away.
Like Paul, I am a fan of Furmont Hooks, and even some of the other hooks in the Midwest line, but this hook is just not right for me and the way I like to work with snakes.
Snake hooks are a bit like automobiles, everyone has their favorite make and model.
The hooks I like best are the homemade ones I am now building and selling at reptile shows. They are a bit radical in their design, so they do not sell all that well, as many folks seem to have pre-concieved ideas of what a snake hook should look like, but I have had great feedback from those folks who have given them a try.
Hey Paul, EMail me your shipping address, and I will send you a couple of the hooks I am making for evaluation. I would like your opinion on the design. Best Regards JohnZ

Midwest has done it again! Well balanced with two comfortable grips, this hook can handle anything. Really strong too. The 27" model is great for cage work.

its good

Just recieved the longer 36" hook and it is all I expected. It is weighted a lot differently than their standard hook, so some practice on inanimate objects and non-hots is reccomended before using it on hots (have to get the feel of the hook and become "one" with it). It is very strong and hardly flexes at all compared again to the standard hook. I believe that this hook could even be used for some light duty flipping and ripping.

I just recieved mine a few days ago and when I got it out of the box I thought my order was confused with Mini Me's. The standard length of this hook is only 24". No where on their site states that the standard length is 24". I assumed wrongly that the standard size was around 40". I called and you can get custom sizes (which I am going to do if I can get past their "restocking fee" B.S. for returning the shorty one, if not I'll go Furmont).

a must for anyone in the field

I have found this product to be the best all round hook I have ever used, it is light, very strong and sturdy, feels very comfortable and natural in my hand and it is very versatile, by this I mean it is an effective tool for use with a very wide range of species. It is also attractive to look at and inexpensive, I think it is great, I will definitely buy another if this one actually ever breaks, which I doubt will happen in the next few years.
