This book gives a great insight to those who want to get into venomous snakes.
It is easy to understand, and makes people aware of things they might have forgotten to include when planning to keep Vens.
Anyone who has not got this book should add it to their shopping list, i have waited a long time to find a book this good, and i can't recommended it enough.
Well done B.W Smith, for a a great well written book!!

Extraordinary!!! This book will save lives.

After reading the book once, I couldn't put it down. I have just finished reading it the second time. If venomous snake keeping was a religion THIS would be our Bible.
I have always considered myself safe and responsible when it comes to practicing safe handling protocol. I must confess B.W.'s book address scenarios I have never thought of. It is so well written it relates to the techincal and the not so scientifically minded. I have already made modifications to my "hot" room based on suggestions from this book. I have read my fair share of reptile and snake care books. Most just regurgitate the same old information back at you. This book elevates keeping venomous snakes to a whole new science.
This book will save lives and is bound to be the book other books reference for a long time.
WAY TO GO B.W.!!
with kind regards - Patick

Definitely a "must-have!"

Brian's book is an excellent how-to that has been needed in this community for a very long time. I have the color version and cannot imagine why anyone would want anything less.
It covers an incredible range of topics from the ethics of venomous keeping to room set-up and tools of the trade. Cage construction, handling techniques, transporting and even some excellent and handy tips for making your room safer.
I am not a big fan of LD50 charts but they are there for use along with a contact list in case of emergencies and a list of federal and state agencies. Just an incredible amount of information for the discerning venomous reptile keeper.
I am proud to have a copy in my herp room.

Much Needed & Necessary Info For Safe Keeping Of Hots Included.

So, you’ve kept a Ball Python for five years and now you want a Black Mamba.
Whoa!
Before you make this move, you’ve got to read this book!
B.W. Smith knows reptiles and how to prolong their lives and yours. No, he’s not a miracle man, just an exceptionally experienced and licensed herpetologist that knows what he’s talking about and how to express it without need to pull out a scientific dictionary.
Common sense answers in common language is the key to the success that this publication will present to current and future generations.
Experienced herpers and novices alike will benefit from perusing VENOMOUS SNAKES IN CAPTIVITY. Don’t let your ego stand in the way of an easily prevented accident. From caging to handling to tools, B.W. covers beyond the basics to keep you, your neighbors, and your animals safe and secure.
Don’t take lessons from the sensationalistic examples set by television personalities paid to entertain you with death defying handling techniques!
If your appendages, life, family or bank account mean anything to you, this publication contains vital information that will allow you to properly house and maintain a venomous collection without incident. In fact, to own venomous reptiles without reading this book only demonstrates a lack of responsibility.
Look at it this way. As an owner of a venomous reptile, you’re a member of a community that is as much maligned as car salespersons. No matter what you do, your neighbors will think you insane and beyond the norm of society. You are dealing with animals that have the potential to kill you, your family, or others that have the “misfortune” of living close to you.
You must prove you are not as foolhardy as they believe. You have to demonstrate safety in all aspects of keeping your specimens. Proper housing, handling, feeding techniques, transporting, and tools are all musts to alleviate stress on everyone. The more you present yourself as a true professional, the more security you provide for everyone. With the knowledge you’ll find in this book, you can do exactly that!
In decades of conversations with herpers, there have always been viable questions that are repeated over and over. Unfortunately, there has never been a book to provide these answers. (Oh, you can pick up books that will tell you how often to feed a certain species. Yet, you will not find one that will tell you how to do it without becoming a newspaper headline. Nor will they give you tips on cleaning, tubing or bagging.)
B.W. Smith gives you the answers. Regardless of your experience or curiosity level, THIS IS THE BOOK you need to own and read again and again.
If you follow the information it provides, you may find yourself around to do exactly that!
