Actually, I have the PE-2 Temp Gun, the next level up, but it is made by the same people and is similarly useful, quick, accurate and effective. I like the PE-2 because it has a laser-pointer feature that makes it, well, a lot more fun to use! What the heck. Anyway, I was recently rehabilitating a barred owl that was HBC (Hit By Car... veterinarians just love their inscrutable acronyms), and as the owl got better, I was letting him just hang around the downstairs. It was kinda cool for a while -- sort of like being at Hogwarts. Then the owl took to rehabilitating the house, my houseplants, and me. He definitely got the upper hand (or talon), and it was hard to say for a while who was in charge of things. I tried to put him outside, since he was almost fully recovered, but he wouldn't leave, plus he was eating like 7 - 10 mice a day, which was about to put me out of business. Then, he got ahold of my newly-purchased PE-2. After he got done with it, it looked like it had been left lying in a Wal-de-Mort parking lot for a few days and had gotten run over by a hundred pick-ups and SUVs. Amazingly enough, the temp gun still functions perfectly, although it looks like hell. I finally put that frickin' ornery strigiforme outside and he flew off after a couple of days of trying to get back inside. There was no precise locale data on where he came from, but we have a lot of barred owls around here, so I guess he'll be ok. If there was any truth to the Harry Potter movies, though, that school wouldn't be standing with so many owls flying around loose in there.
