Mine came with the breakdown bead in the middle, but a permanent roll pin holding the trigger, I knew not to spend the extra $10

Collapsible tongs

I purchased my collapsible tongs off ebay, they are used and much lower quality than Midwests tongs. I placed a strip of foam in the lower jaw to stop the shearing action of the top and bottom jaws coming together. Once collapsed they fit nicely in a backpack or on a bike cargo rack. With a delicate touch, there is little risk to the snake. I personally think the hand grip is uncomfortable. But it is heavier than the jaws, allowing one handed use.
If you get these, please, use padding if you intend to handle snakes.
good luck,

Having collapsible tongs is absolutely invaluable if you want to travel by plane or backpack with a set of tongs - full marks for MCP for filling this gap in the market!
The quality of manufacture is up to the usual high MCP standards - no problem there. Putting them together or collapsing them takes around 30 seconds - simplicity itself.
Unfortunately, the tong jaws rather let the product down. The lower (fixed) jaw is slightly too short, leaving a gap between its tip and the "beak" of the upper jaw - I have repeatedly had problems picking up small snakes with this tong. As always, the Pillstrom-type jaw design leaves one worried about injuring the snakes with this design. Padding of the jaws seems a must for this type of tong.
If you are going to travel by plane a lot, and need tongs that fit in a reasonably small bag, these are what is available, and they are certainly usable. However, I truly hope MCP eventually produce a set of collapsible Gentle Giants - I'll be first in line to buy a whole bunch!
