Description: J. Whitfield Gibbons; Paperback; Buy New: $15.95 (Used $2.95) -- From the Publisher
The essays and stories assembled in this book are good reading and they contribute new insights into the ecology of a little known and much maligned group of animals. Each of the eleven chapters reveals the exciting as well as the endearing qualities of reptiles and amphibians, taking into account not only how they are in real life but how we perceive them.

The Trials and Tribulations of life as a herpetologist...

Ever wonder how NOT to catch an alligator? Dr. Gibbons has a rare gift for turning the dry prose of scientific journals into engaging and delightful narratives as he shares his life-long fascination for reptiles and amphibians with the reader. While much of the content is devoted to non-venomous herps, he does include a rather compelling account of an encounter with a 9' bushmaster. If you've ever wondered what it would be like to be a professional herpetologist, then this is the book to read. Of course, if you want to know what not to do with a 'gator after you've caught it, you'll just have to read Ecoviews: Snakes, Snails, and Environmental Tales by Whit and Anne R. Gibbons.
