Description: by H. Cogger - Out of print -- An abundantly illustrated comprehensive guide to the identification of Australia's rich and varied herpetofauna--over 960 species of frogs, crocodiles, turtles, tortoises, lizards, and snakes--both for researchers and for more generally interested readers wishing to broaden their knowledge of Australia's wildlife. The present edition of Cogger's classic (first published in 1975, most recently in 1986) features not only an updated and expanded text but two new features: all photographs are in color and placed adjacent to the relevant text, and the identification keys are accompanied by explanatory drawings for quick reference and easier identification. The volume also includes distribution maps, a section on collecting methods, a glossary, and an extensive list of references. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)

I picked this up in Perth in June. It is huge and has the best selection of photos and write-ups of any book I have ever found on Aussie herps. I love this book. Karl

Its the best book on Australian Herpetofauna ever produced. My only gripe is that not all species have a photo but you try getting photos of 1,000 species.
I have most all of the recent major books on Australian Herpetology....including the previous edition to the sixth. While there was little change that was good....little change was needed.
Why did I buy it... I had to you can't really do research...in the field without the best book around. The reason I say this is that about 100+ new species have been added how can you id the the animials you catch when an additional 10% have been added to the possible total.
