Description: R. S. Thorpe; Hardcover; Buy New: $185.00/ Used $125.00 -- Wolgang Wuster (Editor), Anita Malhotra (Editor)
-- In the search for snakebite antidotes, the ecology and evolution of venomous snakes is of critical importance. No previous text has addressed both the medical aspects of snakebite treatment as well as the highly relevant ecological and evolutionary aspects. This book also presents an accessible introduction to venomous snake research that will appeal to the growing number of amateur enthusiasts, and will be an essential reference work for researchers involved in any aspect of venomous snake research, as well as those interested in the broader fields of ecology and evolution.

Excellent text. Godawful price. Certainly not an armchair read

First note, my rating reflects the price. Sold for $50 it would get 5 out of 5 but everything else we buy is reviewed at a price point and I don't see why a book should be any different.
Poverty aside this really is a superb book. Although, by their nature, a compilation of scientific texts will be dissjointed, the editors have pulled this book off remarkebly well, setting the book out into clearly defined sections with strong links. There is no way at all I can fault the actual content of the book in anyway. However, there would have been nothing at all to stop the use of colour plates in a lot of the book and a loud, flimsy plasticated jacket doesn't make up for this.
This book will appeal to people with a SERIOUS interest in venemous snakes or to those who have a need for such information. Students would be best advised to get this book from the University library rather than buy it, unless of course, like my uni's library, there are too few copies to be able to get it when it's needed.
