Great so far! Excellent hook.

I received mine about a month ago, and am incredibly impressed. I had heard warnings about using these to flip heavier things, but I've used it to flip tree trunks, plywood, sheet metal, and a lot of other fairly heavy items without any damage. It has good flexibility (not too much or too little give), and is extremely lightweight, making it perfect for field work.
The anodized head looks really good, too! I got mine in red and it definitely draws attention from passer-bys.

Very good hook

I recently purchased one to replace some older, "rigged", and roughly used ones. This hook is easy to manipulate due to it's light weight and is sturdy enough to be used daily and even for non recommended uses occasionally, (small log flipping). Overall, I am very satisfied with the hook.

Absolutely spiffy!
When ever I go herping I take my tongs and hook. just match they do. This thing is not only super strong, but extremely light. This thing is probaly my favorite tool... it or my tongs, but they work as a team so I'd have to say both ;)
My Advice is get one. Mid-West is My #1 herp supply. They've never let me down.
happy herping and be safe :)
Best,
Blake

good but...

nice hook, very reasonably priced, and it's easy to get via the website...that said...I like furmont's equivalent much better...it is lighter and is easier to maneuver than the midwest version, but it is more expensive and furmont doesn't have a handy dandy website to order off of. therefore I have all midwest hooks...

The best hook for handling snakes
|
Time owned: 6 to 12 months
|
I love this snake hook. Midwest's standard hook is the best hook on the market for handling snakes. I have recently started using it quite often and haven't gotten very close to getting bitten when it is around. It can however break after a short while if you use it as a field hook. I have also used the professional field hook a bit and love it for its ability to turn over logs, boards, and tin but it isn't nearly as good at catching snakes. I have come very close to a few bites by using the field hook and wouldn't recommend catching anything too dangerous with it because it doesn't have the U-shape curve at the tip. So, often when I am out in the field I make sure that one of my buddies has the field hook to flip suff over and I have one of our standard hooks to handle the snakes. Midwest has all of the products that a snake handler needs and I highly recommend their products.

This is the best hook I've used, hands down.you can flip some pretty heavy things with this baby, and it won't bend a bit. decent price too.

Excellent Quality!

I have seen that MCP is already working on upgrading their hooks but I must say that this is an excellent hook. It is my first "store-bought" non-collapsable hook and I am very pleased with its sturdiness and flexibility. I look forward to getting to know more of Midwest's products.
