I've owned/own nothing but Furmont reptile hooks 11 or so currently (have had others in the past from 1986-2010). there is no hook in the world that will stand to them (lightweight & strong).
Mr. Furman used to work for Nasa way back before he started making reptile hooks, and had the connections for super quality lightweight metals that all of todays "hook makers" do not have. not to put down any current companies, but I've personally tried & put them to the test & they will not hold a candle to a "good old" Furmont hook. I own a 2003 stumpripper as well as a 2010 double shaft stumpripper & no field hook will take the abuse either of these things will take. I've tried other well known field hooks that tried to duplicate them, but they are not even anywhere near the same quality & bend/break easily while flipping even just a RR tie, I trashed the unnamed one in 1 day & the Furmont is still perfect, as are some 30+ year old ones I've personally seen. These hooks (even their cage hooks) will flex like hell but not stay bent (superior quality metals not used/obtainable in other hook companies products). Anybobody who owns "ANY" Furmont hook will agree that they are as lightweight or lighter & will take more than any other hook available (lightweight = perfect for fast nasty elapids or crazy straight moving crots/vips). I would dare anybody to test a stumpripper to the easily obtainable copy of it, there is no hook like it & yes it costs more, But you get what you pay for. The shafts are made in Italy now instead of USA, but you get the quality material where its available. I've personally talked to Mr.Fuman on the phone in 2010 & their Stumprippers are not welded together, but pounded into a die to form them & it is a very complex/difficult procedure that produces a superior, durable, strong shaft. Thunbs way up & worth every penny.

Today the only place to find Fuhrmont reptile hooks is Beaudaly Enterpise. Run by Christian Beaudet Richard Fuhrmans animal specialist for 12 Years. Fuhrman Diversified closed it's doors after a wonderful 40years after Richard Fuhrman passed away.

I just got one a few weeks ago and I love it. It is the standard feild and zoo hook, I haven't tested it in the feild yet but i used it on my snakes at home it's great. Much narower throat than mid west hooks which is far better on 99.99% of the stuff I catch in the feild.

cage hook 15 years

I own a cage hook from Fuhrman that I got in the 80's and still perfer it over all the home-mades and bought ones I've used over the years. It performs very well and is light and only a little scared from use. Midwest hooks are too large to perform well and the large open hook won't hold a snake well enough for me. They also owe me for two large hooks I paid for, returned and got no refund for. Try Fuhrman if you haven't. Shannon B.

FuhrMont custom makes each hook, tailoring it to perfection. Although a bit pricey, every cent is worth it. The aluminum shaft is deceptively strong. The custom fabric grip is unmatched for reducing slipage. Fuhrmont offers a wide range of hook designs and materials. These hooks makes handling everything from Dendroaspis to Bitis a breeze. Great for the lab or the field, these hooks are must-haves if you work with snakes!

The best hook that I have ever used!

I recently placed an order for a couple snake hooks with Fuhrman diversified inc.
They quickly responded to my E-mail and answered all of my questions. The hooks that I ordered come in the standard snake hook U-shape or the
L-shape, the price is $31.00 each. I ordered hooks with a custom square shape and so they cost an extra 5 dollars, no big deal.
I recieved the hooks about a week after they had recieved my check.
And, as I had asked, the shape was just as I wanted. I was amazed at the weight of these hooks: four and a half ounces!!! One hook is 24in and the other is 30in and have identical weight and feel. But don't let the weight fool you, these are strong enough for almost anything in your snake room and strong enough for moderate field usage, especially with the L-hook.
Upon first admiring the new hooks, I knew that I had seen the same thing somewhere else... and then I realized that it is the same kind of hook that Mark O'Shea has used for years on all his shows. (The silver one with the black grip)
After a while of playing with these new toys I put a length on rubber surgical tubing on the hook ( something that I like to aid in gripping and pinning of snakes and in gripping objects in the field.)
The handle on these hooks is a kind of spong dip thing that I have seen on garden shears.
The grip is easy to use and I have seen Mark O'Shea use it to pin many snakes on his show.
I have used my new hooks on the snakes where I work for a few days now and I won't buy any other brand of hook from now on.
All in all, I really think these hooks are great!
Fuhrman has a very good selection of hooks and other equipment in their catalog. All hooks have a gurantee, come in many sizes, shapes, weights and materials (including plastic, aluminum, titanium, magnesium, beryllium and stainless steel).
Their products are used by such famous herpetologists as Bill Haast (uses only Fuhrman), Mark O'Shea, Jules Sylvester, Bill Lamar and Many many many more.
Use the Original, use the best, use Fuhrman!!!
