Speak Out: Permitting System
Who would support a national venomous reptile permitting system? Does the current “state by state” system really make sense? Take for example the City of Bristol. If you drive down Main Street, Virginia is on your left and Tennessee is on the right. On the left side of the street, people can keep any venomous reptile they like without any type of permit. On the right side of the street, the residents can not keep any type of venomous reptiles, regardless of their qualifications. Does the 15 feet that separates the streets make that much difference?

There is no reason for there not to be a national permiting system. In michigan there are no laws aon keeping venomous snake only if they are endangered of course. "If" a person wants to keep a venomous reptile they should be allowed to so you buy a permit and make sure there is help close by incase of a envenomation.

Eventually here in SC they're going to regulate the keeping of hot snakes. AT this time some cities have a "dangerous animal" law under which a venomous reptile would fall. Its the responsibility of the keeper to prevent reasons for the state to get strict. They won't specify what qualifies as "experienced handlers" - they will just regulate as they see fit. Up until a couple years ago you couldn't buy a ferret in this state. Imagine the hullaballoo when they fixate on hot snakes ... And they'll need a search warrant to get in MY house :)

I'm from SC and as far as I know we don't have to have any damn permit to keep venomous animals.I believe that every state in the U.S. should be this way because some that we chose to keep as pets are native to us. So what if we chose to get a imported venomous species. If were bitten then that is our tough luck because we know what we are getting ourselves into.

I ALSO LIVE IN THE STATE OF MISSOURI OR AS
A HERPKEEPER MIGHT CALL IT (MISERY).
THE LAW'S HERE ARE VERY STRICT BUT I DO KEEP MY HOTS REGARDLESS. IF YOU CAN GO TO TEXAS,
OKLAHOMA,AND SEVERAL OTHER STATES AND LEGALLY KILL,SKIN,AND EAT CERTAIN SPECIES OF
RATTLESNAKES WHY SHOULD IT BE ILLEGAL TO PROPERLY FEED THEM AND HOUSE THEM.
OVER HALF OF MY SNAKES WERE RESCUES FROM A ROUND UP.
NONE OF THEM ARE NATIVE TO MY STATE OR ENDANGERED I HAVE BEEN WORKING WITH HOTS SINCE I WAS VERY YOUNG AND WOULD LIKE TO SEE SOME CHANGE IN OUR STATE LAWS.
AFTER SOME EXTENSIVE RESEARCH I HAVE FOUND
THAT FIRST TIME CHILD MOLESTERS IN THIS
"GREAT STATE" WOULD EXPERIENCE LESS TROUBLE
IN OUR COURT SYTEM THAN A VENOMOUS KEEPER WITHOUT A PERMIT.YOU DO THE MATH!

I live in Ohio, and about a year and a half ago i bought a trimessereus albolaboris.I had her for about 2 weeks before tha cops found out, bein that my sister is one, they called my house.I missed tha call, but seen they had called,so I called them back already figuring what it was about.they told me to get rid of it.little did they know,I know a lil' bit about ohio's laws and proceeded to tell them that it is not illegal for me to keep her.they say somethin' like "we're lookin' out for the safety of tha community"so I told him i'm not gettin rid of her.and if i did it aint because of tha law.I argued w/ him for a min. cause I knew that he knew he had no legal grounds to go on.needless to say,tha conversation ended, but I felt better after i called them and shared a few thoughts w/ them.I don't think they liked it too much,but....

I think that we should police ourselves. More laws will make it harder to educate and develop technologies. Political boundaries should not be an issue and any organization that educates about venomous animals should educate the law of these animals as well.

You should have to be educated and take some test to own a venomous snake. However people that are afraid to go out side because of a "freaken reptile" should also have to take some test! I mean come on!!! Afraid to go out side!!!!! omg. Put your self in a bubble so nothing will harm you for god sakes. And hey who cares about learning anything about the animals right? I mean instead of learning what there really about stay inside away from books that could help and defently away from those " freaken reptiles" ewww. Dirty terrorist snakes! lol

this is an outrage!! venemous reptiles are dangerous and in the wrong hands can cause serious injury to themselves and others... it is a crime to let unqualified people take on the roll of dangerous things.. think of the children and think of the people out there who wont go out side as they are scared of being hurt by these freakn reptiles... does anyone care... it should be illegal to keep these things without hard worked permits and qulifications....
