In the 1940's, Dr. Fitch conducted the first major field studies of rattlesnakes in the foothills of California's Sierra Mountains. He subsequently studied a wide range of organisms, including Timber Rattlesnakes, at the University of Kansas ecological reserve which now bears his name.
