Worked for 28 years, mainly as the head of immunology research at the Commonwealth Serum Laboratories in Melbourne. Achievements: Development of funnel web spider antivenom. Development of the pressure immobilization snakebite first aid method. Leading role in the development of the snakebite venom detection kit. Established the Australian Venom Research Unit. Major reviews of envenomation in Australia and PNG. Publication of over 300 scientific publications relating to toxins, and envenomation. Wrote the first major book on envenomation in Australia. Published 4 books plus an autobiography, covering envenomation management at various levels.
