Joe Pittman, RN, CSPI
|
Joe is a Registered Nurse with more than 20 years experience in Emergency, Critical Care and Trauma Nursing, and has specialized in the management of snakebites for which his co-workers nick named him "Joe Venom." He has also worked for the Florida Poison Information Network and is nationally certified as a Specialist in Poison Information. Joe founded and is the Director of the Florida Snakebite Institute whose goal is to improve snakebite prevention and treatment through education and research. The institute provides a variety of services including nuisance snake removals, private consultation in snakebite management, education programs for the community and EMS/Healthcare organizations, and the development of bite protocols that provide detailed bite treatment for private keepers, zoos, breeders and Emergency departments. Joe has also spoke for various herp societies, presented at Venom Week 2007, and lectured for the Emergency Nurses Association National Conference on envenomations, and is published in various Nursing journals on the topic of envenomation management. In addition, Joe maintains a private collection used for educational programs.
