hello rob,
i live in england and as you probably know we lack reptiles, well there are 6 known species here and after seeing them all i definatly wish for more. i am studing animal science now and hope to become a herpatologist, and next year my college takes me to borneo so hopefully something substatial should turn up in the rain forest. otherwise it looks like i'll have to come to australia to catch a glimpse at your reptiles.
Karen Ellis
England
Hello Karen when you go to Borneo you definately will see more reptiles, especially if you go night time spotlighting. Driving roads in the rain forest is an exellent way. Other than vipers you should see pythons, watch yourself because it is also home to the giant reticulated python which has on occassion eaten people.
Regards ROB

Yo Rob
I enjoy your show the most. I learn more in one episode of yours than I do on other shows. Like the one about swimming across a river calmly and slowly, without making a sound, so you won't attract crocs. I'll remember that next time I'm in croc territory. Plus, those critters you cooked up in the fire look pretty easy to prepare, you just gotta hunt 'em first. Keep goin at it!!
Take care
Yo Lyre, well i am so glad you like my show the best, our motto is keep it real, also do have the experience to show the animals in their best light (some in the light of fire ). please remember that not splashing only works on crocs not in the direct line of sight if they can see you it wont work! It is only used if there is no other way and only minimises the risk!!
Keep watching and spread the word ROB

I'm going on a trip to the osa peninsula in costa rica, and the only thing that worrys me are the snakes. All im taking is a sawyer snakebite kit, but am wondering where i can purchase antivenom kits for the corals, eyelash vipers, bushmasters, and/or i think it's fur- delance viper
Hi Anonymous, The least of your worries I can assure you should be snakes. Taking anti venom would be next to useless as it requires expert medical knowledge to administer the stuff safely. Just watch ehere you put your feet when walking around the bush, most snake bites occur by stepping on the snake trying ti catch or kill the animal, so go take care and enjoy your holiday .I wont watch the news for Anonymous bit by a snake in Costa Rica.
Best wishes ROB.
I am in Australia, and I keep a a fairly large collection of elapids, Taipans, Tigers, Browns, Blacks, Mulgas, adders, Copperheads etc as well as a Freshie and some pythons.
I am after some Atherton Tableland Red Bellies, a while back I saw you with one. Any chance of getting some.
Melbourne, Victoria (0419 328 251)
Most interested to hear about your collection of elapids. Are you breeding any Taipans yet? I am chasing some young ones myself. With regards to the Tablelands Red Bellies, I do not know of any in captivity and the chances of getting a permit to take from the wild in QLD are almost impossible. I will however try to find out if any of the northern zoos keep any.

G'day Robbie, Hope your working hard and not sunning it up too much!
Spoke to Leslie a couple of weeks back, and you MUST bring her back something nice - I would suggest me, but, I'm sure you'll find something else?
D'you reckon Timmys still studying whilst you're away?? Possibly done a runner and taken up work in The Big Shed at Wanaaring?
Can you give Joe a bit of a nudge when you next see him?, remind him about the "Aberdeen Angus" and that should jog the old grey cells. He's been going hard at it, and was down seeing Peter - Tried 'phoning but got no answer.
Stay safe, and have a good flight home.
As you know Dave, it's bloody hard up here, great one day, perfect the next. Yeah when I think about it, where is Tim? Haven't seen him around for a while (since this morning) I'd better go and check if the little “B's” gone fishing. Will definitely give Joe a BIG NUDGE for you next time I see him, won't be back till August though. He's still down south so try again. Stay safe HA HA you know me!
Best wishes from Rob & the Mob.
In the mid 70's a family friend was shopping in a mall on Long Island when her friend complained of scratches or pricks when she tried on a leather jacket made in Brazil. Within an hour she was on life support and died before doctors diagnosed her as snakebit. Venomous snake hatchlings were found in the lining of the jacket. Our community was devastated and horrified by the news, as was our family friend who witnessed the event. I was a young teenager and cannot remember the species name of the snakes, however I am currently writing a story on the tragedy and need to know if it could have been baby bushmasters? Your thoughts on what species it might have been? Mahalo from Hawai'i, where we have no snakes.
Well Mekila, I would very much like to be kept informed on this unusual event. Can you get hold of any medical information regarding this tragedy? How they (Baby Snakes) got into the leather coat would be a real mystery. One would think they would have had to be put into the lining, because Bushmasters have living young. It's not as if a snake laid eggs in the coat and they hatched later when the coat was put on. Please keep me informed of your findings.
Hey Mr Bredl, Great show!
Just wondering, aren't you afraid to get bitten on the leg(s) by a snake that you step on by accident?
If you ever come over to Holland just send an E mail, we'll arrange a sleeping place
SNAKESKIN! Peter thank for writing. When I go bush I really watch where I put my feet and try not to step on any snakes, in fact I have never stepped on a snake YET! (touch wood). Yes I have been pretty close at times but my keen eyes have always seen them in time. Walking barefoot one really has to watch where one puts his feet. Thorns and glass are a few things that can make walking this way uncomfortable.
KingCobraFan on 2003-07-03
Just want to say that your shows are excellent and keep up the good work!
P.S. Any chance of apparel such as ball caps or t-shirts? I can't imagine them not selling once the general herping community found out about it.
Hey King Cobra Fan! Thanks, keep watching. There are more great episodes coming. Caps and T-shirts, yes soon hopefully. I do have a few books in the pipeline too. SO KEEP ALERT. We will advise you as soon as they become available
hey rob i have a question, i am 14 years old and i want to start with venomous snakes, how should i start? is there any kind of camp or classes that can teach me how to handle venomous snakes and stuff like that? Please email me at nonarky@yahoo.com
Hey Zipper, tell you what. Start on non venomous snakes first. Some of the more nasty ones like Coach Whips, that act like venomous snakes. No I don't know of any camps or classes that teach that kind of stuff! Maybe in the future I should start such a camp, what do you reckon?
greasemonkey on 2003-07-03
Hey Rob great show I find it interesting when you tell the stories of how your dad brought all kinds of reptiles home and how your family delt with them I find your show realistic and educational keep up the good work.
Thanks Grease monkey, keep watching there are more great episodes coming. Our motto is “KEEP IT REAL!”
Regards Rob, “Barefoot Bushman”
Mr. Bredl, your show is great. I too am wondering if you're considering filming in the deserts of the U.S..Again great show and thanks.....
Glad to hear you like the shows, we have just recently filmed a series of U.S. desert shows and yes we are definitely coming back to the deserts of the U.S. We have much more to film I assure you. “Never know might see you over there”
First let me say that I consider Killer Instinct among the best of all the herp shows being produced!
I have seen the majority of the shows you have produced to date and am anxiously awaiting new episodes.
Do you plan on coming to the U.S. to make any of your future episodes?
Most welcome comments! We do try to “Keep it Real”, that is my motto. We have just returned from the U.S. where we filmed some new episodes with Rattlesnakes, Gators and lots more, keep watching they will be on air pretty soon. We will also be returning soon to do further filming of your great country. So Jackie, keep watching.

Hi Rob,
when I visited Gatorama in Florida last July, those guys told me, that you will come one day later for swimming with the gators and crocs there. Did you really swim with these huge acutus?
There is another facility in Germany, where every visitor is able to swim with gators, see www.alligator-achtion-farm.de
Best wishes,
Ralf

Hey, I watch all of your shows, Rob! I just recently watched a show that you made in america (rattlerviile 2), and I agree that the standard snake tong is a bit of a cruel method used to catch venemous snakes. I have looked all over the web, and I can't seem to find a jigger like yours. Could you please tell me a website that sells a jigger similar to yours?
Thanks a Lot

I currently own 3 sugar gliders (cuddly soft marsupials not venomous snakes for those who do not know) and am saddend by the amount of animal owners who get pets before they fully learn about how to care for them. Shows like Killer Instincts help people understand these exotic animals and may help eliminate common stareotypes. (For example a lot of people believe that because the sugar glider is called a sugar glider they only eat sugar!)
Thank you for opening up the eyes of the people and perhaps saving animals.

Hello Rob , great to see how much airtime killer instinct gets here in canada . It's on maybe four time a day . I was watching the other night and saw the edward river croc farm . Do you know if Peter is still working there ? and also do you think the farm will be there for a long time , is it government funded ? I was wondering how peter came to be where he is , did his father work there ? If theres one thing I miss about oz its a fresh caught barra and some muddies on a fire on the banks of the chapman . Its truly a magical place and I hope to take my kids there one day soon . p.s is the other river just near the chapman called the morgan river . P.s. if your out at pormparraw with the halroyd's and chapman's buy a couple of them a beer for me. thanks mate

Firstly your show kicks the crocadile hunter's butt , it's interesting to see that the last two years I've been in Canada his show seems to have disappeared while killer instinct continues .My son loves your show,so do I. I believe I was mistaken in my recent note , it's not the chapmans its the Holroyds and the Jonson family in pormparraw ( one place I always have trouble spelling) isn't it . Are the two creeks on each side of Pormparraw called the chapman and the johnson ?

i don't know if you'll have time to read this, but i hope so..
i live in canada, and i am having a problem with the mentality of "animal lovers". a year ago, i thought it would be a great idea to work in a pet store (I was wrong.) i am still working there because i have no other job to go to. and it just completely KILLS me to have to be placed in an area where absolutely NONE of the animals are happy. the cages are too small, birds should fly and not be caged, dogs and cats can't live in boxes and the poor reptiles are cramped in 10 gallon tanks. everyday i am upset at work because of this, and also the people who buy these animals have the "well if it dies, i can just buy another one" attitude. they don't understand what death is i guess, i wish the pet trade was never created. animals should stay in their natural homes, not in 'boxes'. i admit i do have a couple animals at home but this is because i cannot stop the pet trade, so i sort of 'rescue' these animals in a way. at work it's really sad because of all the people working there, i am the only one who actually makes sure these animals stay healthy. i clean the reptile tanks every day when no one else "has time to" i can't write things off that the animals NEED TO SURVIVE because the managers have a big problem with it.
If an animal is arboreal, it stresses out on the ground, if an animal is nocturnal, it should HAVE a hiding place and low lighting. none of these are being considered, and i fear for these poor animals when i leave. we had a blackthroat (cape) monitor at the store and everyone was scared of her because she whipped her tail and hissed at everyone. Now... she's going to be 6 feet TL and aggressive. And nobody is going to tame this lizard? so i thought to myself, i should handle her. at this time i just started working with reptiles and had no idea of the way they act. but i didn't care, all i thought about was her well being, so i began petting her on her back, of course she hissed loudly, flattened out and whipped, but i was determined to gain her trust, so everyday i would feed her (oh yeah, the only food they gave her was dog food and crickets (she didn't eat the crickets anymore because she was too big and the dog food has so much fat in it because it's for puppies) and talk to her and pet her and eventually she stopped flattening out and whipping. One day i decided to pick her up (with no knowledge of how to handle a monitor lizard) and she cooperated nicely, there were people walking around on the floor so i took her to the back where i could hold her in peace, and she began to trust me. i would sing to her with a soft voice and pet her on her head (her favourite petting spot) and i would handle her on my hour long breaks everyday, and eventually she was so tame that she would snuggle up to my neck and close her eyes and listen to me. the amazing intelligence that monitors have amazes me. when you look into their eyes you can see the ancient wisdom that they carry. She was the only lizard i was ever so attached to like that. I named her "Kira". i made sure the person she went with thoroughly knew what she was supposed to be fed and what care was needed for her, so the guy built a room specially for her. but 3 months later i got a call from the guy saying she was 'getting too big' and she was only 4 feet long. i told him how often she had to be handled to keep her tame and he said he understood, but i don't think she was handled that often because he said she was too hard to handle and aggressive. so i tried to find a home for her and i couldn't for the longest time and one day the guy came in to the store and told me she was moved to a new home with 2 other cape monitors. and it's supposedly right down the street from me :) but i am still waiting for the guy to give me the phone number to where she is so i can see her. but the point i am trying to get across is that people should understand what they are getting into when they purchase an animal, consider the commitment and take care of them properly. oh also i was looking on the reptile order list and there were even NILE monitors for ordering on there. i personally don't believe monitor lizards who exceed 4 feet should be in captivity. and i wish i could stop it. but i just really wanted to share my story with you because i can't tell anyone else what i believe without losing my job and i really depend on the money. (which is sad cuz we should be able to survive without money) please email or reply back, my email is:

Hi Rob Love your documentry's especially the one where you hop out of the limosine in your bare feet, a classic, I to am an Entertainer, tell me Rob are you going to film a documentry about the Panthers and Bobcats that are suppose to be roaming the Australian wilderness, this would be very helpful and if anyone can get to the bottom of this it would be you, i have a sister who saw a bobcat or mountain lion as there called in the us walkin across her property with a litter of 3 young ones in western Australia and was amazed at how close they were, this was late afternoon, farmers have had trouble with cattle being killed in the area also, and believe me she knows what a mountain lion looks like and a feral cat and this was definatly a mountian lion or bobcat the mother and babys were all tan in colour similar to a lions colour which is why they call them mountian lions in America, the sightings and evidence is to overwhelming, so can we expect you to resolve these findings once and for all? and what do you think of this Rob, surely being a bushman yourself you must have seen something thats fits these descriptions by now, look forward to your responce regards Deke Rivers.
