I am a huge fan of viperidae, having worked with them in the field for a number of years. I have never personally owned a hot, however, I run the only rescue in both North & South Carolina that regularly handle both native and non-native hots.
Handling hots are not a new thing for me, and as I've said I've done it for a number of years. I have never owned a single hot, but have not only provided medical treatment for those that have come through the rescue, but also have a high level of skill in the Big 9 (constrictors) that require a degree of respect for reptiles (just as is required for hots).
I'm torn between both the sidewinder and the saw scaled, and I've always told myself "only keep up to three reptiles, you run a rescue!". I'm up to two, and currently believe that the time to look into my last addition to the collection.
Other than the fantastically beautiful looks of both, can anyone tell me the pros and cons of owning either saw scaled and the sidewinder? As they say with the Big 9, "there is never a great beginner snake, but there is always a snake for the great beginner" I believe this can be applied to hots as well. I'm not looking "for a great beginner snake", as I've worked with all kinds of (primarily) North American Viperidae and a handful of elapidae.
Any direction would be fantastic.
Thanks.
