Hello All
I have a 36" Red Diamond Rattle Snake with 6 rattles that showed up on our porch. We have had it since Sat 26 May 2013. He defecated 2 times in the first week. It has not eaten yet. I have tried small brown mice, and brown baby rats both live and pre killed. It does drink water at least 2 times a day.
It is very active in the enclosure, standing 24" to touch the top and moving the natural dirt. It watches me in my office all day and even comes over to great me when I approach the enclosure. It will only rattle a very little bit if startled. It is very easy to handle (with gloves) and even appears to enjoy it.
We have it in a large Exo-Terra enclosure (36"x24"x24") with natural dirt and accents. We have a 4 UV Full Spectrum Lighted Hood and a 18"x12" heating pad beneath the tank on a temp control device.
Thanks for the help!
Joe

I have been trying everything I can think of to get him to feed without stressing him out. Next will be force feeding baby fuzzy mice. I just don't want to stress him out as he is so mellow. He acts like he has been a pet all along and doesn't know how to strike or kill. He will go right up to a live mouse but just wont strike or eat?

I force fed 1 pinky mouse and left another in the tank to see if he would eat it. I really hope he starts eating on his own. He is so non-aggressive I don't want to make him aggressive toward humans.

He is doing great now with regards to eating.
He eats 1 jumbo mouse a day for 2 days (2 Mice) then 4-5 days later deficates. Then 1 day later he is ready to eat again. He is putting on some weight but still a little on the thin side as he is still a juvenile.
He is eating prekilled jumbo mice and is real active. He starts searching for food as soon as he deficates.
Is he eating too much or is this fine for a juvenile?
