Hi Jonte!
There's better snakes than C.Vegrandis to start with, I think it's too big and too dangerous. If your'e interested in rattlesnakes it could be a good idea to start with a snake in the Sistrurus family. They are beautiful and easy to handle. Good luck and be careful!!

Yes, I think so, much better. I would like to keep them to, but I haven't find any yet. They are really beautiful and the size is right to. Sooner or later...
Best rgds/Thomas

I am not sure I agree 100%. I have keep a number of C. vergradis. They are not very bad tempered on avg. at all, they are slow growing, and dont reach a very large size. They are for the most part a middle size rattlesnake. The worst down side is the bite. The bite from one is going to pack a bigger punch than a lot of starter hots.
However of the ones I have had in my collection...all where easy to work. I think if a new venomous keeper started out with a well started baby. They let it grow with there skill level they would both do fine, IMHO. Sure there are many snake on could argue are a better first hot...a well started copperhead for one. I just done see a vergrandis streching a new keepers skill to the limmit. Asumming the new keeper is doing all the other things right, correct housing, correct tools, having someone with experance mentor them...all that good stuff.
