I just wanted to share my relief that the little copperhead I have ate his second tree frog. This frog was immense and two days later there is still quite a large bulge in the snake and he has that all you can eat buffet bar look to him. I honestly don't know how he got it down as he hit it soon after I offerred it but didn't consume it untill night time about 2 hrs after I went to sleep. I simply can't get over the size of the prey item that snakes can eat. I hope this one isn't causing too much discomfort. Maybe a mint flavored tooth pick or an esspresso would help.

Awesome news Howard!
The little guy/gal is well on it's way to becoming a nice addition to your collection.
Best,
Al

Yeah - it sounds lame but I am releived to know I didn't take this beatiful snake out of the wild just to have it die due to my ignorance. It just took me aback when it didn't feed right away the way the dozens of constrictors I've owned did.
The snake seems OK-w-it's new digs and I hope to keep it healthy.
BTW can a meal be too big? Also I have purchased a precision cage (I think) but have not received any confirmation and can't get up-w-the owners???

Good question:
If it's too big and can't get it down they will give up at some point. I think that is a fail-safe to protect the gut from bursting.
A word of caution learned the hard way...
One of my neonate Gaboons ate a big meal of a mouse, no problem here. The problem was when it was being removed to a holding tank while I cleaned it's cage it fell from the hook hitting the floor, rupturing it's gut. She now is housed in my freezer. They can handle those sorts of things on an empty stomach but not a full one.
I just got an email from Lovell (precision cages) replying to one of mine. Normally he's easy to get hold of...

Thanks for the tip-sorry to hear about your fatality. This guy is so stretched I would not dare move him and any way. As a habit I have always let my snakes get over their last meal before I mess-w-them but I can imagine a larger snake having something in it's digestive system that isn't apparent to the eye yet is still stretching the gut.
