If you were a snake and had a choice, what would you do.
Ok, say you take the most dedicated keeper who really loves his animals and has time to spend with you (the snake). The keeper, makes sure he sets the enclosure up to match your natural environment perfectly with plenty of space, always gives you fresh water daily, gives you the best food in the right amounts everytime and the temp. and humidity is always perfect.. I mean everything is just as it is in your natural environment or better.
If you had the choice, would you still prefer living in the wild? With all of your natural predators, possible loss of habitat, possible low abundance of food and what ever else you might would encounter in the wild.
Or, would you rather live with this keeper and have an easy worry free life?
What would you choose? Remember, you have to be open minded and really give it some thought.
I just thought it might be cool to see what people have to say.

I would choose to be in the wild. Because it doesn't do your species any good to be in captivity and not contribute to future generations. You are also not contributing to the ecosystem that you belong to. Snakes play an important role as predators, as well as prey, and those ecosystems need that niche there and are not complete without it.
So the snake might as well be dead.

sorry this isnt really a response but it made me think of when people say things like, "if you love the snakes so much why do you keep it caged up, it wants to be free in the wild." , i cant seem to explain it to people ,but my point is the snake does not care if its in captivity. as long as the conditions are appropriate and it has a steady supply of food its as happy as a snake could be. i dont think a snake is capable of being happy in the first place, i guess the closest thing to snakes being happy is not being stressed.

Basically, I doubt that we are capable of thinking like a snake. I think that our brain is so different that we can't completely exclude our mammalian needs/desires/philosophies from our thinking. However...I know a few egyptian cobras that make it very clear that they would prefer to be outside. It's much harder to tell with most snakes...

Ok. I think this ad was/is requiring us to use our imagination. A question to snakeman.. If you say the snake should may as well be dead (if it's not in the wild, as I took it) then why collect them? I think that Thenewdisciple had a good point that maybe the closest thing to a snake being happy is for it not to be stressed. Yes, maybe we're not capable of thinking like a snake or anyone else for that matter, but that is why God gave us an imagination to work with. Right??
Now. If I were a snake and someone just up and took out of my natural environment I would prolly be a little aggrivated and stressed. I would probably be under a great deal of stress for quite some time. If I was now under the care of a snake keeper I would hope it would be someone who knows what they are doing and how to care for me. I think if everything in my new environment was anything as close to my environment in the wild (except not as big), I would enventually get used it and the stress level will eventually come down. So, I think either way it went I would be happy in the wild and then when put in captivity, under all the right and perfect circumstances, with NO stress, yes I think I would do fine.
That is my opinion of "If I were a snake" and I thought this ad was a pretty cool!
Hope to read some pretty good feedback on this subject, as it would be cool to see how people would feel "if they were a snake."
Thanks,
Shauna

If it was me, i would be very happy to have a keeper that would feed me, keep me warm, and keep the climet in my cage just the way i like it. Then on the other hand i would not be able to do my part in helping my species get back up to the population level that should be. So in my mind this could go 2 ways. Now if i was a snake i would prefer to live my life in the comfert of a keepers hot room, considering that i will always have a warm house and plenty of food, man this is like a trick question LOL. Well i think that snakes are beter off with a good keeper than in the wild considering all the ppl that would kill you on site, at least with a good keeper you have a long healthy life. Just my opinion, at times i would hate to be a wild snake, with almost evry person out to kill me............Happy herping Wally

That's the type of response I am looking for Wally. I am just looking for you as an individual, not the species. I will say how I feel.
If it were me, I would be more than glad to be kept in a hot keepers room, if everything was kept perfect or the way I like it. It's called NO FEAR, which would mean no stress, which means a healthier life. Sure, I may not be able to travel the lands, but who cares. Everything I need would be right there. Besides, just "one" snake been kept in captivity isn't going to hurt the population in the wild, other wise, no one would have any snakes in captivity. I wasn't asking as a species, I was asking as an individual snake.
I would even go and say I would like to be kept by me as a hot keeper. I do my best in keeping my animals heathy, happy and as stress free as possible. I have even went with out food just so I could feed my snakes. They may not have chose to be in my collection, but they are and I will do my best in keeping them as happy as possible. This was just a question for fun, not to be taken so serious.
So think about it if you were a snake, just an individual snake, that wouldn't make a bit of difference in the wild population, would you choose captive care or wildlife?

I really like thenewdisciple's, Shauna's and Wally's post. All posts are good though, but these are what I am looking for. I want everyone to use their imagination and creativity, I mean really express yourself. I am not very good at things like that, but a lot of people are and I would like to see other peoples views on this. I have never been very creative and I suck at wording things. However, I usually get my point across...lol But anyway, let's hear it everyone, but keep it fun and realistic please!! Thanks for all the replies.

I understand where you are coming from, but they cant do there job in captivity. They cant become prey which is needed and the cant be predator which is also needed. And I think that they like it in the wild alot better because when I keep a snake for a few days and then release him, he seems very happy when hes back to the wild.
