hi everyone
i ve become very interested in reptiles especially american reptiles . I would like to know just how many lizards and snakes live in central america . I would like to go there one day as im sure a lot of people would. thanks everyone for your help .

It would depend upon where in C.A. you visit. There are many species of lizards & snakes down there. The most common lizard I saw in Costa Rica was the spiny-tailed iguana, genus Ctenosaura. Another interesting lizard is the basilisc. There are several species, including the beautiful green, Basiliscus plumifrons.
Basiliscus vittatus, one of the brown ones, is an established exotic here in my part of south Florida.
There are some seriously venomous snakes down there, & your ability to recognize them could be very important. Good antivenin is available down there, but the time involved in getting you out of the bush & to a source of antivenin could be lethal. Pick up a copy on The Venomous Reptiles of the Western Hemisphere.

hi im very interested in reptiles in central america ( as well as the rest of the world ) and i ll tell you exactly how many are found from mexico to panama.
CROCOILES, 2 FAMILIES 2 GENERA AND 3 SPECIES
TURTLES: 7 FAMILIES 14 GENERA AND 25 SPECIES
LIZARDS: 10 FAMILIES 50 GENARA AND 230 SPECIES
AMPHISBAENIANS: 1 FAMILY 1 GENERA AND 3 SPICIES
SNAKES: 9 FAMILIES 86 GENERA AND 276 SPECIES
TOTAL 29 FAMLIES 153 GENERA AND 537 SPECIES.
