Stocked up on toads, tree frogs & regular(?) frogs last PM after the rain. Put them in the fridge so they wouldn't jump around when I put them in the deep freeze. Nice getting free food. Anyone know if RTB eat any of these amphibian delights? Also what is the best way to watch the snake eat? He kills his food but doesn't consume until after I've gone to bed. How often should I feed him? Had one lady kick me off her lawn while trying to coral a tree frog. I told her I was trying to feed my snake and she slammed the door? Some people!

Since his meals are still fairly small, you're probably alright to feed the snake every five days or so. You have to get the snake more used to your being present at meal time. Look in the articles section of this site and find 'A Treatise On Tease Feeding'. After he's killed his food, you might try teasing him with it to entice him. This will also get the snake more used to your being present at meal time. I'm not sure what your RTB stands for, is it the copperhead? These food items should still work while the snake is very young, but you'll probably have to switch to primarily rodent diet when the snake is older. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the help. I can get some big toads & frogs around here so I plan on keeping some in the freezer for variety. The RTB is Red Tail Boa although I think the more knowledgeable herpers would call them BCI???

Hi Howard:
I don't really know if they dine on amphibs. I know they (under some circumstances) eat another RTB up to the same size. Sounds strange but true, long story but I have pictures to prove it!

I have read this about many snakes. What better meal-like a giant hot dog? I can't imagine the fight prior to the win and then the energy to consume the prey. I suppose the one that gets in the first good "punch" has the upper hand - um - advantage. Either way nature is fasinating.

Why feed a boa such small, light, parisite ladden foods ?, mice are much better, and you easier on the local frog population.
