I bought an african rock python at the show in South Carolina last weekend. It's a young snake, only about 18-24" in length. I asked the dealer if I could inspect the snake before purchasing who stated, "yeah if you wanna get bit." Well, I didn't get bit and checked the snake out which seemed to be normal and healthy. On the way home, my wife was holding the snake and found a small tick on the side of the its neck. I immediately pulled over and removed the tick. I got the snake home and he started eating right away (two mice). This morning I checked on him before work and the bottom of his neck, just under the jaw joint is swollen considerably. I brought the snake to work with me and just inspected its mouth. I cannot see anything lodged in the throat but the throat lining appears to be swollen and full of fluid. Maybe he's got strep throat (just kidding). Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks, Jason

Hi
One of my pit vipers exhibited the exact same simptoms and it was over night just like you said. Took him to my vet and he treated him for respiratory infection. It was a hard road but he got well in the end. Get him to a vet pronto is my advice. My vet said that if I had waited, the snake may not have had a chance.
Good Luck

Yea, that sounds right. If you want to keep him, get him to a vet ASAP.
PS: Doesn’t sound like the best dealer in the world!
