I went hunting the other evening at around sunset. It was about 75 degrees and I walked several types of terrane yet came up empty. I thought it would be too warm but I even found some great old tin roofing-w-no occupants. Lastly is there a way to watch a pit viper eat. Mine seems to kill his prey but waits to eat it. I have a night vision digital camcorder I'm thinking of setting up. He is only about 14" long and seems stricktly to feed at night?

Howard:
Sounds like you were in the right places but it's sort of the off season so it's hit or miss when out hunting.
Find a red light bulb (like for a dark room)and put it into a fixture with a shade to focus the light. I use one to illuminate the night action in my Herpeterium.
Kodak make this very nice (expensive)LED bulb that gives off tons of light that makes feeding under these condition much safer.
Have fun

There are a multitude of factors that drive snake movement. Moon phases, humididty, barometric pressure, temperature, naturally the season, and so on. It's a matter of finding out what the serpents in your area prefer at what time. And then when you have it all figured out down to a science...they'll still do something else. Sometimes they just do what they do.

Thanks for the advice. Like most things that are worth attaining it doesn't come easy.
Is a snake really a serpent. I argue from time to time in the defense of snakes that there was a serpent involved in the tempting of Adam & Eve and that this animal is not the same as a snake. Many beleive the fear of snakes is rooted in the story of original sin and the snake was the culprit. Not me.
Thanks
