Do any of you know a site that lists all the Endangered snakes of the World besides CITES?
I have noticed a dramatic decrease in the number of snakes this year a few months ago I could catch maybe three of four snakes a day but I am lucky to find 3 or 4 a month now. What is going on this started happening in July?

I am not aware of any such list but it will not help you that much. I assume from your bio that you are in the Mid-Atlantic states area because you listed Carolina Pygmy Rattlesnake as one of your favorites. This was a bad year in the Carolinas because of the dry spring. Also, depending on how you hunt, July is the end of finding large quantities of snakes under temporary shelter in the Carolinas. Road cruising is still productive but this year I have captured few snakes other than Watersnakes and Copperheads on the roads. Water Levels are still low and so you can find snakes in areas where any significant amount of water accumulates. However, in heavily poluted areas, like the HogFarming east, higher concentrations of toxins in accumulated water kill many snakes and drive many more to find other sources. I have also noticed that many of the shelters that I found snake in in previous years are gone. Last fall many areas were "cleaned up" which makes finding the snakes harder because they disperse more and use more sibterranean shelter. Also, with fewer shelters, more snakes die in the winter; and we had a cold winter.

Gotta agree with Scott. I'm in Western N.C., and you wouldn't believe the time needed to find a copperheads or a kingsnake here this year! It's been dry and hot this summer, and there hasn't even been much of anything on the roads. The "Indian Summer" season of warmer weather after the onset of fall just lasted a few days, and it's already back to cold nights here (+/- 1,350 Ft. Elevation), so we're not seeing much.
The only things I've picked up the last month or so have been copperheads, garters, and E. milksnakes.
By-the-by: if anyone's in my area, please drop me an
e-mail: pgbsteve@wnclink.com. Let's just hope for a
better set of conditions next year, I suppose.
