Well since this forum was getting a bit too quiet I thought I'd toss out a topic.
The new exotic animal act was signed into law in New York.
http://assembly.state.ny.us/leg/?bn=S07616
Did anybody notice how overwelmingly it passed? Just two lawmakers voted against it. This sort of law is a "no brainer" for lawmakers. We are just an insignificant blip on their radar screens. We best organize some sort of national lobbying group for defense because this is just the start.
If we as a group don't start policing ourselves and coming up with some standards of care & safety we can kiss this hobby gooodby. A proactive stance is required..or the best defense is a good offence.
Just my opinion.

We don't have a chance, it's not just lawmakers that we are fighting against, it's ourselves, and the fanatics like the HSUS and PETA that have much more political pull than we do. The NYS bill wouldn't even have been around if it wasn't for the HSUS. And this was way before all the bites started happening around the US, which made it even worse.
Pataki is a former iguana keeper, yet still signed the bill, how can you any fight any logic or hypocricy like that?
Not to mention, out of all the venomous keepers, you have about 30% who can actually articulate well enough to get a point across, and seem mildly responsible enough to keep venomous snakes. You may think that's not important, but it is. And, out of that 30%, you have about half that actually fight for the privilege (yes it is a privilege, NOT a right), because in the long run, they know it will affect them. The rest, could care less.
You'll see states getting picked off one by one. Why?
Because there aren't enough responsible people, who care enough to try to fight this in a mature and intelligent manner. We had time to police ourselves and the vendors, time to come together and fight as a whole community, but we didn't. Now it's too late and noone is to blame but ourselves. There are NO safe states left, not PA, not SC, not FL, none.
