anyone know what type of antibiotics they use for resp infections for a tortoise?? Bought a sulcota with a runny nose and a hot enviroment is not working like I thought it would. Do the vets prescribe Biaxin or Augmentin?? Thanks for all replys. Bryan

Tetracycline would be the best for that type of issue but be careful with anything else unless you consult a vet. Pennicilan or amoxocilan will kill most herps if im not mistaken.

I dont think tetracyclines would be used, although I could be wrong. It is used for acne, gonorrhea, syphilis, anthrax, bronchitis, and peridontitis.It is a broad spectrum antibiotic, but I will look into it futher. Thanks for your reply. Bryan

NO NO, Pennicillian is used for those listed below; Tetra is for Sinus, respritory , urinary ect. I went to web md and checked it out.

Also, the Tetra's are notorious for the worst side effects of GI upset. I hardly ever give it to my patients because my hospital HARDLY uses it. Not saying that it cant treat sinus/ resp problems, but there are better antibiotics to use. Bryan

None taken, I was an emt and then cardio tech in the late 80's to mid 90's but never continued or furthered it. All of my certifications have long since run out...
