Phillip, have you used the listerine technique personally? Im going to try it since I have listerine. Are you sure this wont hurt the snake? Thanks to everyone who responded. After I get rid of the mites do I just put him back into his original enclosure(now cleaned with bleach/water) and set it up like before?Also, where can I get proventamite?

No problem Phillip. I knew you weren't being malicious but it is important to correct misinformation quickly.
Jeremy, mites suck blood. Mites breed quickly. More mites suck more blood. You can see how such a problem can quickly get out of control. So, yes mites can kill a snake - not one or two mites BUT, they do multiply quickly and are easier to eradicate if identified and removed early on.

Jeremy,
Proventamite is relatively expensive.
You can get exactly the same ingredients in exactly the same dosage amounts at Wal-Mart. It is labelled as Lice Bedding Spray. It is found in the health care products section. It is the generic Wal-Mart brand and only runs a couple of dollars a can.

iF IT KILLS MITES, IT WILL KILL YOUR SNAKE. I USE CANOLA OIL FROM THE STORE AND DO A RUB DOWN ON THE SNAKE 3 TIMES A DAY FOR 3 DAYS. SECLUDE THE SNAKE SEPERATE IN A SNAKE BAG OR PLASTIC CONTAINER. THEN POUR FLEA POWDER IN THE SNAKES CAGE, SEAL IT AIR TIGHT FOR 3 DAYS. AFTER 3 DAYS, CLEAN OUT THE CAGE, LET IT AIR OUT FOR 24 HRS, THEN INTRODUCE THE SNAKE BACK INTO ITS ENCLOSURE. ALSO FREEZE THE HIDE BOX AND WATER BOWL IN THE FREEZER FOR THESE 3 DAYS ALSO. HAS WORKED EVERYTIME FOR ME, AND IT WILL NOT MAKE YOUR SNAKE SICK. BRYAN
