I think we should propose banning golf.
This would take away many politicians past times that they enjoy. Why? Because a person can hurt another while playing golf with a stray ball. Also one can bust a window then get cut on the glass. One may Slip a disc in their back while swinging the club it also increases ones chance of being hit by lighting and one may get melonoma from to much sun exposure. Not to mention the nitrogen levels rise in the local creeks and ponds due to too much fertilzers and loss of habitat and snake homes and other herps it takes to make a golf course. Last but not least often gambling or betting is going on durring golf games and Uncle Sam isn't getting his fair share of that cash
Or they can ban snakes and herps from us then instead of us being a nice quiet people that enjoys playing with and studying little snakes and animals and minding our own. We could stop doing this since the law says to, and become something that is a little more exciting such as bank robbers, high speed car runners, human population control technicions ,developer killers, Road construction destroyers or Rebel militant members to take back America
So whats better me staying quite and occupied looking for herps treating and respecting folks like I want to be treated or the real criminal one can be if they lose the abiltiy to do what they love and have enough spare time to think about all the things they hate. I think some things are better left alone and only deal with the problems when they occure.
I do think some things need regulation but not total all out bans . I wonder why anyone is concerend when keeper gets bit ?. Its his/her or my deal not anyone elses as long as he or she or me takes the responsibility for their actions. For Every Action there is a Reaction
Just being a bit silly

Also, where would all these snow birds go that come to Palm Springs to play golf near where i live and breath my oxygen LOL. The snakes get on the golf courses out here and these idiots have a special golf club in their bags just for such an occassion. I know why the snakes wander onto the greens. It's obvious, water. You guys would gag if you knew how many snakes were killed on the courses out here. I have tried to make a deal with some of the courses that involves calling me as their snake removal man but NO. I said I would do it free of charge and they just said it's easier to kill them. Just a rant...

It makes you really start to understand where radical eco-warriors, such as Greenpeace, come from. Many of them, most likely start out as 'normal' concerned naturalist/conservationists. But, when you get tired of seeing embiciles, like you mention who are just so ignorant of the grander scheme of ecology, and too blind (not to mention too self absorbed) to realize that every living animal does have a niche, then at some point you finally just reach a critical limit, and enough is a enough.
99% of mankind(or Americans rather) just don't get it, that every little bit of the environment that we destroy, is having an effect on future generations. Of course, most people don't give a rat's ass about future...they're only concerned about how it effects them now.
The rainforests alone are being destroyed, and the effect its goign to have long term on global sustainability is scary!!
At least the game of Golf gave us "Caddyshack"!

Yes well you are right about these people when you say they only care about what affects them in the here and now. These people on the private golf courses, the mixture of snow birds and locals are so rich that they don't really give a crap about anyone or anything except themselves. This of course includes the wildlife. I can't really see how having money would have that effect on me. Or maybe the reason they have so much money is because they never took into account how others would be affected by their actions. The mentality of "Oh, well, I can just trample over that to get what I want".

Creating a large group of folks who are responsible, have the time, and have good argumentative and communication skills is a step in the right direction to have a voice to keep our dwendling privileges.
However everyone in this hobby or profession will have to put their personal opinions aside make or design a legitment statment with a standard policy that works.
All of us who want to continue doing what we enjoy or love will have to be active and stand by it in order to be herd and taken seriously. Unfortunately we seem to preoccupied with our own petty arguments and criticisms between one another about how to hold a snake or how old someone is rather than to stand togeather as one and fight for our freedoms.
After we have made some headway for a standard policy to keep our priveledges then we can go back to arguments amungst ourselves. We all need to make our voices heard in a powerfull, intelligent, and responsable manner.
We need to prove legetimency to the public, local goverments, and law makers then they may start looking at this hobby or occupation in other ways. I am certainly guilty for ranting and being malicious about things I dont like but so are many of us.
If we put as much energy and time that many of us spend typing (only to critisize a fellow snake handler) towards legal battles to protect our hobbies then we would probably be getting somewhere towards stopping total bands on herps. So lets get Started. Who's In!!!!????

If memory serves me the Phantom offered up just such a legitimized, organized solution!
Unfortunately, he was run off by the webmasters and others for using the word Elite...
No one WANTS to HELP save this hobby....!
