This doesnt have anything to do with venomous reptiles but I can use this while looking for them and surveying good snake spots.
Does anyone here know where I can get good climbing gear at a good price. Im looking for spikes,harness,150 foot rope,and accessories like the clamps and hooks? Is anyone here experienced in tree or rock climbing? I have some good spot to go tree and rock climbing. I think that its a good thing to have tree climbing gear in case you find somewhere good to look, especially on mountains,so you can see the whole thing from up in the air and can find better spots that way. I found a good spot the other day by tree climbing and I also found a little creek that I didnt even know was there lol.

Jeremy;
You need an experienced person to "show you the ropes" so to speak. Climbing, like handling hot snakes take practice under the watchful eye of an experienced person. The equipment is also expensive because the gear has to be certified to handle the loads applied.
If your not in school, why not volunteer and become a volenteer fireman. You will learn to do it right plus serve your community. You will also learn Paramedic skills with are also good to know. Plus it won't cost you anything and most volunteer departments are always happy to have a young guy help out.

My friend taught me to climb. He makes a living climbing trees and shaping them up. We went about a month or so ago and he showed me how to tie all of the knots. Hes also been teaching me to tie knots for about half a year now. I have no trained experience rock climbing but Ive taught myself alot since I have to to look for snakes in these mountains. I know what you mean by the equipment being expensive. Just the spikes alone that he had were $150 dollars. He trained me to climb by using a big tree(probably 70 feet) in the woods behind my house. I used a safety line and made it to the top and the tied the knot and repelled down,something I wouldnt recomend doing unless you have someone that knows what they are doing by your side.
I love to climb trees for some reason. Ive been climbing trees on my property all day and I was thinking about all of the equipment I needed. My friend gave me one of his big ropes but we used it to pull my friends truck out of a ditch so I dont trust using it now because its frayed and would snap while climbing.

Another option is to get topographic maps for your area. Your local Fish and Wildlife should sell them in grids for your entire state. Learn how to read these and they'll be instrumental in not only locating potential new spots, but marking those secret hard to re-locate areas as well.
I would strongly encourage anyone looking at working with animals in any capacity in the wild to lean the ins and out of the topographic maps.
Plus they're really cool to put together and wall paper your office with. Makes you look really professional and stuff...LOL

If you want some good experience in climbing you may want to check out the local fire departments or ambulance squads that specialize in high angle rescue.There always short of volunteers and regardless of your location,urban or rural you'll either be climbing elevator shafts or big rocks.You'll get 1st rate training and you'll have the pride that you feel being a responder

I did have professional training. I am still a novice, but I can climb. He brought his equipment up to my place all the time and we climbed. But now he lives in another state and I dont have anything to climb with. All of his equipment was supplied to him by his employer so he wouldnt know of any places to buy them cheap. I was actually thinking about getting a job where he worked next summer. Does anyone know any good places where I can find good climbing equipment for a good price?

I don't know much about climbing- did a little in Switzerland when I was in HS (yes it was supervised :)
However, near to us is a climber hangout, with lots of experienced climbers around all the time. If you know of a well-climbed area nearby, look for these small climb shops- they usually have climbers and equipment.
There are also some good climbing mags- maybe you could get some good info from them?

ps: I agree with Matt about the info thing. And typing all in caps is just plain annoying.
