Chuck:
I see you think lawmakers from surrounding states don't listen to the TV news reports or read a newspaper. I suppose the report of wildlife officials shooting a tiger loose in Los Angeles will go un-noticed too.

Do you know of a single account of a law passing in a state because of a bite in another state? I don’t. I don’t even know of a law being passed steaming from a bite in that state. I know that TN and AL lost their rights due to high profile escapes. Not sure what happened up in KY. I am trying to get info on that, but no one is very forthcoming. Where did you get the info they are going to a total ban as in TN? The people that live there are telling me they have gone to an exotic only ban, such as in AL.

Actually, according to the Law Enforcemnet Officer he could keep the snakes legaly by applying for a permit. The victim decided after the bite to sit down and drink an alcohol beverage and reported to the hospital 6hrs post bite.

Hey Chuck, i read your post, and I emailed the TWRA office in Nashville asking about permits to keep hot snakes in tennessee. I emailed them about 3 weeks ago. The reply I got was very short and sweet. It stated, "NO ONE in Tn is allowed to keep venomous snakes and we do NOT issue permits to private keepers." So, i am assuming that this means ALL venomous. Chuck:
The situation in TN is like a few other states: NH,& CA where a permit is required but the DNR will NEVER issue a private keeper the permit, so that is effectively a BAN. As you know in GA they make it nearly impossible to afford the insurance required for exotics.
Rabies points out what I've been trying to get across that people need to be rsponsible not stupid. He could have kept the Atrox legally but chose to not to. If Rabies is correct, then he REALLY got stupid, drank ETOH and waited several hours to go for treatment. A Darwin Award wanna be!
Bryan:
I have excellent connections in the law enforcement community as well as the "professional level" Herp community. Where being responsible is a way of life.
Drop me a note at: info@neavb.org and I'll send you info on the Antivenom Bank.
Cheers!

Kentucky is banning all venomous including native . You can be grandfathered for animals you can prove you had before April 2005. But you can not breed, sale or replace them when they die. You would need a transportation permit and other documents to prove they are preact animals.
The ban is partly because of all the bites in the Tri state region. Ohio is looking at a statewide ban. Alot of cities in Ohio have already passed laws after the two deaths from exotics.
To get a permit for venomous in KY you will have to be a AZA zoo, county zoo, research /educational lab (Non-profit) or circus. The way it is written now no private individuals will recieve permits.
There is a meeting at F&W on March 22 at 10:00am to attend you must contact Jim Lane at KY F&W, 5 days before the meeting in writing.

Hey Phobos, I cant remember where I read this at. But I read a law that stated in Tennessee, a person who owns a snake over 4ft long must require a permit. Have you ever heard of this, and if so, is it really enforced? Thanks alot. Bryan
