DavidG,
Read page 19 of Understanding Reptile Parasites by Klingenberg. Snakes held in limited spaces in captivity face the medical hazard constant re-exposure to parasites. Steps have to be taken to limit parasite introduction to captive snakes. That is why food needs to be frozen prior to feeding. We moved from live to frozen food many years ago to help curve parasites, not to protect snakes from bites. Most newcomers will not remember that.

I agree I feed only frozed thawed but some times I have to buy live, kill them, and freeze them, also I dont ever use the microwave, you can over cook the rodent, I leave the rodent out for some time to de thaw the rat or mouse then place it in warm (not hot) water then dry the rodent so that substrate doesnt stick to it then feed, but doing this you have to make sure the rodent isnt frozen on the inside that can happen and I have almost fed them to my snake but the good thing about drying the rodent is I can check to see if all the parts are thawed.
