What is the venom toxicity of Atropoides Nummifer {Jumping Pit Viper}, compared to North American Agkistrodon? In other words, how HOT are they? Also, anyone with experience with Atropoides, could you give any info on husbandry? I think they are a fascinating animal. Many THANKS in advance.
Best regards,
Mike

Hotter than North American agkistrodon, necrosis may not be as severe as a bad bite from a piscivorous, but Mexicanum and Nummifer have produced fatal bites. Awesome snakes, they look like little stocky bushmasters.

They are great animals but mine rarely drink on their own. Once or twice a week you need to take them to the water bowl and put their heads in it. They will drink like they never new the water bowl had been there all the time. They are generally very docile but don't drop you gaurd....they aren't called jumping vipers because they just sit there.
