What is the best way to induce breeding with my sand vipers? I have had the adult pair for 2 years & they are both in the best of health.

Audry: What have you tried so far concerning the Sand vipers? Are they caged together or apart? Best Regards JohnZ

As John said we need a bit more information on the conditions they are kept under. Keep in mine though the neonates are very small and difficult to get them feeding.

To be perfectly honest with you, I only put them together a few months ago. I wanted to make sure the female was mature enough before trying to breed her. I only slightly cooled them for almost 10 weeks before I put them together. Simply unplugged their heat pads. I could not find any information on the proper brumation of these. They completely ignore each other. As far as feeding neonates, I do have some experience with this. I have all the right equipment, and have a supply of newborn pinks & lizards as well. I've already been through that with other snakes.

Audry: Since the Sand vipers completely ignore each other, I am thinking you might have more luck with them being kept apart for a while. Wait untill the female sheds her skin, and then introduce the male the next day into her cage and see if he shows any interest then. Also, look for unusually active behavior from the snakes at times when there are strong changes in barometric pressure, as in just before or after thunder storms, and maybee put them to gether at that time. Best Regards JohnZ

I just wanted to thank all who replied to my inquiry. I'll try splitting them up again for a while.
Thanks again,

Ben and I recently bred our cerastes cerastes w/sucess using the following method. We seperated our male and female 3 months and cooled at 65-70 degrees w/ light misting about 3 times a week. Then we slowly warmed them up to reg temps of 90-110 degrees. the misting was stopped and they were fed for 4 weeks. The female was then introduced into the males cage where she instantly raised her tail and flicked it about. The male started courting her about 2 hours later and we witnessed copulation later that night. we left them together for 8 days and seperated them. Now our female is getting fat and sassy. Hope this helps you some.
