I saw the post about some 85lb WDB in Oklahoma and heres what i got in an email
Hello,
Your e-mail was forwarded to me by our Information Education Office. I have not heard any rumors about a snake that large, but I think I am familiar with this story. About three years ago (spring of 2002), there was a photograph circulating around about a large Western Diamond-backed Rattlesnake (about 8 feet long) that was captured in Muskogee County (the same county in which Rentiesville occurs). My understanding is that the photo and story turned out to be a hoax. The shadows of the snake and the person holding the snake did not match, and there was never any physical evidence for the snake provided to any herpetologist in the state, or any law enforcement agency (game warden or county sheriff).
There are Western Diamond-backed Rattlesnakes in that part of the state but they are not common and it is rare for one to exceed 6 feet in length.
Hope this helped.
Mark

The nature of the claim itself makes it subject to intense skepticism. 85 lbs? Give me a break. There has NEVER been a venomous snake captured/recorded before at even close to that weight, much less a WDB. There are much larger bodied crotalids (such as Lachesis) that don't weigh anywhere near that. Gaboons probably top the charts for viperids, and they rarely exceed 25 lbs (that is one massive gaboon). In addition, an 8 ft., 85lb. snake would be one monstrously obese animal and from the picture I saw, there is no way in hell that an animal of those proportions could weigh 85 lbs, even if it was 12 feet long! 8 ft. EDBs rarely exceed 20 or so pounds, so the chances an atrox could achieve that weight are next to nil. Actually, they are nil.
The picture I saw said it was from Texas, not Oklahoma. Another discrepancy I suppose.
