Ricky, I live about 5 miles South of Athens. I see your point on housing and development causing problems with the local population. Some herpers in this area, say they just don’t see the amount of Snakes they did before. I on the other hand have seen more than ever before, I must be looking in just the right places, I guess!!. This could just be really good luck, but who knows huu?..........................Be safe ya’ll, happy herping Wally

I have seen less snakes in Central Alabama during road cruising, but getting off the road or going to remote dirt roads I've been pretty lucky this year. The water snakes are still pretty common. Rat snakes are not as common as they were last year though. I've already found two timber rattlesnakes, which I haven't seen in the 6 years I've been here.
I talked to my biology professor and he agreed that there isn't much moving around this year.
