At the last Hamburg show a person was nicked by a small crot thru the vent hole in a deli cup! From what I understand it was a dry bite .The little one managed that one in a million shot .Maybe we sshould exercise a little more caution when picking them up.

Did you see the huge Gaboon Viper someone was selling next to my table? A fang from that one will easily go through any plastic probably.
You make a good point!

Good point, that would be one way to ruin a good day at the market. I think the same care that we take wile bagging, should be taken any time we pick up a show cup, especially the plastic ones. Just as a example, I have had Non-Venomous neo’s do the same thing through plastic cups and believe it or not, the teeth actually penetrated the cup walls, so think of what a set of fangs could do. I know that a lot of people think this would be impossible, but think of it this way (very sharp little teeth that can penetrate a finger nail could easily penetrate plastic wouldn’t you think). Take a lot of care when picking up any container that someone else uses, you never know what could happen..........Be safe ya’ll happy herping Wally

If someone is using deli cups for hots, they should definately 'double cup' the snakes.

Hi Bryan:
Yes, Hots are shown at shows in Deli cups with the lids taped shut. It's a constant worry about fangs penetrating the cup and into a hand & finger. Warm fingers on the cup wall has to present an IR signature that Pit Vipers can pick up. They even put spitters in the cups! No problem for them to spray out the hole either.
Cheers!

Any time I've had a spitter in a deli or vended at a show with venomous allowed, the rules were that spitters had to be in a double container system with air holes that did not line up. I would generally just put the snake in a smaller deli, then put that inside a larger deli where the holes on the smaller one were below the level of those on the larger.

I agree with you Al. Anything I've purchased up there has always gone out in a paper sack. I place the deli's inside the sack and staple it shut...no one should have to wind up holding those. I've seen it up there so many times...kids (of age, but still kids) walking out the doors with a couple of deli's under his arm or coat as the case was back in April. I wonder if the guy who bought those nice jumpers from that first vendor just inside the door, simply scooped them up and walked out with them tucked under his arm.
Cheers,
Matt

At the spring show,I called it the petting zoo.Ton's of little kids.I saw a little one pick up and shake a very testy forrest Cobra in a cake/pie container and ask Mom ,while shaking it "What's that say Mom"? She smiled and said "that's a black forrest Cobra" .I told the kid to put it down and knock it off.Oh well another dirty look.I shutter to think what could have happened.
