2 yr old bitten by copperhead

I saw this article about a 2 year old girl in Va, who was bitten by a copperhead while at a day care. She spent 3 days a UVA Medical center and darn near died.

I did not get the impression from the article that the child "darn near died". Three days in hospital for snakebite is not uncommon. I did that once, & was at no time near death.

talking to one of the fire fighters from that area (Chris Follet) who happened to be the first responder told me the childs heart stopped TWICE on the way to the hospital in lynchburg and was in such trouble that she was air lifted to UVA where proper treatment was given. Articles never rarely give the correct info.

don't ya just love it colonel; always some clown has to respond in a negative way! even as slight as that, trying to dumb your your post down. i am surprised any ever comes here or any forum for that matter.

Greg: Unless you weigh 30 pounds, there is no way to compare your copperhead snake bite with that of the little boy. An adult has 5 to 10 times more mass to absorbe and detoxify venom than a child does. Any snakebite to a child is going to be much more severe.
And regarding the link to the news story, it is too bad the news folks used the photo of a non-venomous snake for their "Poisonous Snake Bite Story". I can hear the folks now saying "See Ethel, I tole yu thems black snakes was poisonous" based on the photo they used. JohnZ

What a tremendous point John! A 2 year old child to a copper is just just a 30lb dog... Great point on the mis-use of a black snake.
